We know what you’re thinking…European summer destinations are open to US travelers. Despite that being the case, Europe may still not be as easily accessible to get to those island hotspots and ‘pandemic pricing’ deals are quickly disappearing. Therefore, these 5 Caribbean islands are perfect for travelers in The Americas looking for a well-deserved summer vacation a bit closer to home.

1 — US Virgin Islands

Arrivals to the United States Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John) have steadily increased since re-opening last September and especially now since vaccination numbers rise on the mainland and people feel more confident about traveling. Many visitors will want to enjoy the ample water sports, beaches, activities, and day trips to other islands. These islands are the place you want to go to reduce stress and take a break and, for US citizens, no passport required!

2 — St. Barts

This luxury island hotspot is now re-open to fully vaccinated travelers from the US. That includes, restaurants, boutiques, nautical activities, and all other services are now operating without restrictions. It seems as though life on the island has returned to normal. The island is ideal for those seeking a Euro-style escape (but closer to home) with plenty of shoreline for ultimate relaxation.

3 — Puerto Rico

Since the onset of the pandemic, this is the first time Puerto Rico’s bars have re-opened at 50% capacity, along with game rooms. On the other hand, outdoor bars have no capacity limits but maintaining social distancing is still expected, restaurant capacity increased to 75%, and pool facilities and indoor spots have increased to 75% as well. Despite any testing requirements or capacity restrictions, this historically rich, beautiful, and warm tropical destination is still a must-visit especially for US travelers.

4 — Dominican Republic

The US State Department recommends that its citizens “reconsider traveling to the Dominican Republic to COVID-19” and, last week, the CDC also relaxed its recommendations for another 60 countries (including the Dominican Republic) not to travel. That said, the country has been working hard to implement a responsible recovery strategy that allows tourists to enjoy while curbing the spread of COVID-19. Even as early as this past spring, some celebrities were already fully taking advantage of what this quintessential Caribbean destination has to offer…soft, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and the tropical lifestyle.

5 — Turks & Caicos

Beyond beauty, these islands are now one of the most vaccinated countries in the world. The British overseas territory’s competent containment of coronavirus allowed the country to re-open to international visitors last July. As evidence of its success with COVID-19, the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board announced that the destination is the exclusive host of Too Hot to Handle Season 2, which premiered yesterday on Netflix. It’s no surprise given these island’s turquoise channels, mangrove-shaded flats, and shallow reefs that make up this awe-inspiring natural Caribbean atoll.
